Teaching and Learning Enhancement Awards (TLEA)
Award Information
Funded by the Provost and Vice-President, Academic, the Teaching and Learning Enhancement Awards (TLEA) help support initiatives to enhance the quality and creativity of teaching at Acadia University. Successful projects will receive up to $2500 in funding.
Projects are up to 12 months in duration and each application must be accompanied by a clear timeline to demonstrate proposal feasibility within the one-year timeframe.
The membership of the committee to adjudicate the awards will include the Vice-Provost, Teaching and Learning Excellence, previous grant holders, academic deans, faculty from across disciplines, and colleagues from partner units on campus. Projects will be evaluated based on their potential contribution to effective teaching practices and the ability to achieve the proposed outcomes with the amount of funds requested.
Successful applicants will be expected to present a brief summary report to be published on the learning and teaching website, and the results of their project will be shared in a public forum, such as the Annual Festival of Teaching and Learning.
Priority Focus Areas
These awards will support teaching and learning projects in the following areas:
- Innovations associated with the use of learning technology
- Exploration, implementation, and implications of generative AI in teaching and learning
- Accessibility in the Classroom (making your course more accessible)
- Co-Creation with students (experiential/community-based learning initiatives)
- Inclusivity initiatives (enhancing internationalization, Indigenization and decolonization, and/or universal design for learning)
- First-Year Experience Initiatives that promote student persistence and facilitate successful student transition

Evans Teaching and Learning Scholar Program
Established through generous funding by Donna and Rod Evans, one Teaching and Learning Scholar will be appointed for each of the Faculty of Arts, Faculty of Professional Studies, and the Faculty of Pure and Applied Science, for a total of three. These positions are for a three-year, non-renewable term. Tenured professors, continuing CLTs, or instructors with continuing appointments who teach in one of the three Faculties as part of their academic duties are eligible to apply. The Scholars will be expected to propose a specific project they aim to complete during their term, to undertake faculty - and campus-wide communication of findings and sharing of practices, and to advance their own professional development. The Evans Teaching and Learning Scholars will each receive one 3-credit hour course release and $5000 budget for their project per year.
